Is there a certain type of swimwear that is required by CARS?

Swimmers may practice in any swimwear that they are comfortable wearing. To reduce drag in the water, swimmers generally practice and compete in tighter- fitting swimsuits made of Lycra, nylon and/or polyester. CARS recommends that boys swim in “jammers” as opposed to loose-fitting board shorts. The standard swimwear for girls is a one-piece suit.

Does CARS have a team suit for swimmers?

Yes! The team suit for CARS is made of high-quality 100% polyester. As such, the suit may be used as a practice and meet suit, and should not wear out or fade during the course of our summer season. CARS has an arrangement with Xtreme Swim located at 2220 Coit Road, Suite 325 in Plano to purchase the team suit at a discount. Swimmers may try on and purchase the suit at Xtreme’s store.

Are swimmers required to purchase the team suit?

CARS does not require swimmers to purchase the team suit. However, we highly encourage swimmers who compete in meets to use the team suit for uniformity purposes.

What type of goggles should my swimmer wear?

Goggles come in all shapes, colors and sizes. The better brands are made by Speedo, Tyr, Nike and Arena. Swimmers may need to try several sizes and brands to determine a best fit. Most popular brands offer youth-sized goggles for children under 12 years old. Because goggles may break or get lost, having a spare set of goggles for your swimmer is advised.

Does my swimmer need to wear a swim cap?

Swimmers are not required to wear a swim cap. However, caps reduce drag during swimming, particularly for swimmers with longer hair. Some swimmers do not wear caps during practices but will wear caps during meets. We encourage swimmers to wear their caps at meets for uniformity purposes and to assist coaches in identifying our swimmers in the water.

Does CARS have a team swim cap?

The team cap for CARS is a blue cap with our “classic” logo. A silicone cap will be provided to all swimmers at the beginning of the season. The cost for one cap per swimmer is included in the registration fees. Additional caps may be purchased separately.

Fins

Practice fins are required for practice, especially for the younger swimmers it will help them build leg strength and keep up during the first weeks of practice. Xtreme Swim will be able to help you with fittings. Athletes aged 10 and under will need long training fins while athletes aged 11 and over will need short training fins.
